NetFox has the following interoperability functionalities:
- Advanced LDAP synchronization with Active Directory, eDirectory and Open Directory
- Can easily integrate with an upstream proxy – this is useful when NetFox is required to sit inline with an upstream education department proxy
- Optionally deployable as a virtual machine on VMware
- Can integrate with Monitor charging systems to provide consolidated billing for Internet, photocopying and printing
- Can integrate with the My Student payment gateway to incorporate Internet billing securely into a school's cashless access environment, all accessed by a student via their identification card.
- Scope (the NetFox interface) is browser based and is compatible with both Microsoft Explorer and Mozilla Firefox

Does NetFox Support help me with the installation and initial set up NetFox when I first install it?
Yes, the NetFox Support team is happy to provide you with phone assistance during initial installation and set up of NetFox to ensure you can ask any questions you wish during the process. This service is included as part of the support provided free of charge with all paid NetFox licences. If you would rather on-site assistance to install and set up NetFox, NetFox Support can offer this service within 50km of all major Australian CBDs at a once-off service fee.
Although NetFox is an ‘appliance’ solution, it does not necessarily demand the purchase of its own special NetFox hardware. NetFox has optional hardware add-on packages, however you may install NetFox on hardware you already have if it is appropriately speced. NetFox can be deployed in two ways – either as a simple install on a dedicated piece of hardware, or as a virtual machine running alongside other environments on the one server. Therefore to summarize, NetFox can be delivered in three ways:
- Preinstalled on its hardware purchased as an add-on at the time you purchased the software
- An installation disc that you can run up in a clean server
- A installation disc that contains NetFox preinstalled as a VMware appliance that you can run up in a VMware session on a suitably speced server
When the NetFox installer begins it installs its own operating system, database and proxy/cache services on top of which all the NetFox services will run. It will then walk you through synchronizing your users and groups from your directory server (NetFox is compatible with Active Directory, eDirectory and Open Directory). Everything is done via a graphical installer and because NetFox is its own operating system along with everything else, you do not need any other third party software to be able to get NetFox up and running.
To find out what hardware specs are necessary to operate NetFox effectively in your environment, please contact your NetFox dealer or 1300NETFOX. If you are calling from outside Australia please see the NetFox website for contact details. A recommended hardware spec sheet is also downloadable from the NetFox website. However, to give you a broad indication, NetFox is not a CPU intensive system so its main requirements are memory and hard drive space - for most schools 1 to 2GB of RAM and 80 to 180GB of hard drive space are suitable, but please do check the specific requirements for your school before purchasing NetFox.
